Throughout my life’s journey I have always used art making as a way to express myself. As a child and young adult, I would often lose myself in creative activities that provided me with a temporary place to escape from the realities around me. As an adult I discovered the power of the creative process that led me on the path towards my own healing journey. This new awareness inspired my passion to become an Art Therapist.
I am an Indigenous woman and a member of the Samson Cree Nation located at Maskwacis, Alberta. Although I was born on the reserve circumstances led us to move to Edmonton after my first year of school. Eventually I moved to Calgary, then to the West Kootenays and now reside in the Central Okanagan, British Columbia.
I have always been interested in art, music, fabric, movies, and books. I began my art career as a mixed media artist, exploring my cultural and personal history through the use of materials such as clay, barbed wire, textiles, canvas, paint and found objects. For me, creative expression through art making and being on the land and by water, have been instrumental parts of my own journey of discovery and empowerment. I believe strongly in my connection with family, my culture, and the land. I like to support others on their path to healing and discovery.
