“Wonder is the gift we share if we allow it.”
Richard Wagamese
Art therapy is a way of exploring ideas and feelings that may be difficult to articulate or understand. Art Therapy combines the art making processes with psychotherapy to enhance the physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being of individuals.
Various materials are used to give voice to what is internal, to examine and explore the process, which allows for the eventual transformation of these pieces. Creating art can assist with being completely immersed in the process without thought or judgement about the art.
“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way– things I had no words for.”
Georgia O’Keeffe
As an art therapist Faith uses a client centered integrated approach and follows the lead of each person she works with. She believes in creating a place where people feel safe in exploring their feelings, thoughts, and experiences through the creative process. Faith helps each individual process their unconscious and conscious beliefs, attitudes, and feelings by gently asking questions and listening with empathy and respect. She encourages each person to share only what they are comfortable sharing.
When working with children Faith incorporates the use of art materials and play to make the experience fun and easier for them. Intake meetings with parents help to guide the process. Art therapy can be used with people of all ages and doesn’t require any art making experience.
Art therapy helps with the healing process, helps to balance the nervous system, and improves the mind/body connection. Making art can assist with developing personal insights, self awareness, and growth through the creative process.
